According to a recent Rightmove Index, Yorkshire's historic town of Harrogate has just been named as the happiest place to live in the UK.

While this may come as a surprise to some, it reflects the town’s unique blend of heritage and contemporary life, which offers value to pretty much everyone who visits this idyllic location.

So, here are five reasons that make Harrogate such a fun place to reside:

1. Harrogate is the High Tea Capital of the UK

If you have never heard of Betty's Tea Room, you are missing out on a slice of history (as well as delicious cake). Open since 1919, and one of Britain's most visited establishments, it delivers a classic British menu that includes beautifully presented sandwiches, pastries and stunning cakes. Served with the most delicious blend of Yorkshire tea known to man, Betty’s has brought joy to many and offers a facing glimpse of Harrogate’s identity.

2. The Stray Captures Rural Yorkshire at its Finest

Harrogate is a diverse town, in more ways that many people care to give it credit for. Its increasingly modern and urban centre provides a stark contrast to the regions vast swathes of green land, which include the iconic Stray. Essentially 200 acres of open grassland that borders Harrogate bustling centre, the Stray reflects the regions true heritage and captures the very essence of rural, North Yorkshire.

3. Harrogate Does Designer Shopping Like No Other

Typically, quintessentially rural areas like Harrogate are not renowned for having a range of boutique or designer shops. This Yorkshire gem breaks the mould, however, as it is home to a number of designer fashion brands, stocking high-end clothes, accessories and items of jewellery. This only adds to Harrogate’s feel-good factor, which enables people from all walks of life to enjoy themselves.

4. You're as Safe as Houses in Harrogate

Not only does Harrogate offer a plethora of attractions, but it is also considered to be one of the safest and most secure locations in Britain. In fact, it was voted in the top 10 most secure destinations in the whole of the UK as part of another Rightmove study, with the vast majority of residents feeling happy and safe in their dwellings.

5. Harrogate Has Also Been Voted as More Romantic Than Paris and Rome

Whilst the type of votes we are referencing to explain the majesty of Harrogate can be debated, they also offer a fascinating insight into the true appeal of the spa town.

Take the recent survey by Secret Escapes, for example, which listed the most romantic destinations in the world. Incredibly, Harrogate secured third spot on this coveted list, finishing ahead of renowned cities of love including Paris, Vienna and Rome.

This represents a quite magnificent achievement, but one that is also deserved and in keeping with Harrogate's unique and diverse charm.
