June 2017

Harrogate is renowned as a vibrant town that celebrates culture, history, and diversity and if there’s one thing that supports this assertion it’s the array of events that take place in the quaint spa town every single year.

From fun, nationally- recognised festivals, to quaint local events that encapsulate the region’s true identity, these unique celebrations appeal to a huge range of guests each year.

With this in mind, we have decided to pick out some of the stellar events for 2017:

1. The Great Yorkshire Show- 11th-13th July

It’s hard to compile any list of this type without featuring the Great Yorkshire Show, which celebrates the very best of rural life in a truly great county. Harrogate is the proud host of this event, which is set to enjoy its 159th installation in 2017.

Featuring everything from TV stunt horses (a first for the event) and a number of famous attendees, this year's show promises to be better than ever. After all, the RAF Falcons are expected to perform a parachute display for the very first time, while new fashion designs will also be modelled on the Yorkshire catwalk.

This even is widely recognised as the nation's premier agricultural event, with an estimated 130,000 people turning up on an annual basis.

2. The Ripley Show- 13th August

Whilst the Ripley Show may be a little faster-paced and a little more niche than our previous entry, it’s definitely worthy of a place on the list.

Popular with young residents in particular, The Ripley show features a number of competitive events, demonstrations and trade stands- giving everybody the chance to get to involved. This sense of immersion and audience participation helps the festival to truly stand out, whether guests compete for prizes or look to buy and sell produce throughout the day.

The show unfolds beneath the shadows of Harrogate's iconic Ripley Castle and this year’s instalment is booked for the 10th August.

3. The Harrogate Autumn Flower Show- 15th-17th September

No list would be complete without the inclusion of the annual Harrogate Autumn Flower Show, which promises a genuinely enthralling premise and theme for 2017. More specifically, this year’s event will host a new exhibition that traces the ancestry of the UK's most popular plants, with images included on numerous postcards that capture their aesthetic beauty.

The Flower Show seeks to touch on the unique history of our favourite plants, charting their journey from the far-flung corners of the globe. From stunning fuchsias that first emerged in South America to the camellias from China's heartland, this exhibition will be informative, colourful and present a unique proposition to guests.

Make no mistake; this is the UK's premier flower show for a reason, but it also sells out quickly. So, you will need to book by Tuesday, 5th September if you are to secure a coveted spot!
